We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, Ken MacKenzie. Surrounded by his family, Ken passed away on Wednesday, September 11th, 2013, at the age of 97. He was born in Baddeck, Cape Breton, in 1916.
Beloved husband of the late Mary (2000). Loving father of Sharon (Bruce) Taylor, Blair (Marlene) MacKenzie, Paul "Fraser" MacKenzie (Judy Hanlon), Linda (Rick) Maltby, and Trisha (Brian) Hackbart. Cherished papa of Randy (Marlene) Kipfer, David (Karen) Kipfer, Tanya (Tim) Bolitzsky, Jody MacKenzie, Richard, Michael and James Maltby, Christie (Mike) Purdy, Dan (Mary Rose) Hackbart, and great grandfather to Joseph, Kendall, Ryan,Valerie (Nick), Shelby, Matthew, Joshua and Megan and great great grandfather of Audrey Rose. Dear brother of Hattie Power.
Predeceased by his siblings, Tina, Isabell, Pearl and Howard and his son-in-law Ross Kipfer.
Ken was a proud Veteran who served overseas. He was a member of the RCL branch #530, in Waterloo. He also was a member of Schneider's 25 year Club, the Schneider's Ex- Servicemen Club and St. Anthony Daniel RC Church. He enjoyed all sports and participated for many years in cribbage, curling, darts and horseshoes.
Ken's family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9pm with parish prayers at 8:30pm. Ken's Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Daniel RC Church (29 Midland Dr. Kitchener), on Monday, September 16th, 2013 at 10am. Interment at Parkview cemetery. A reception will be held in the Parish Life Centre.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Poppy Fund or St. Vincent de Paul Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
