Scott, Russell Caven:
Passed away peacefully at home in the house he built in Kitchener on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the age of 94 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Grace (nee Bean) for 65 years. Loving dad to Lorie, Lois, and Brian. Predeceased by his parents John and Amy Scott and his brothers and sisters. Dear brother-in-law of Marjorie and Peter Hallman. He will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was raised on the family farm in the Township of Blandford-Blenheim. During WW II he volunteered for the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of 19 and served from March 3, 1943 until November 19, 1945 as an air bomber in the 408 (Goose) Squadron flying in the Halifax Bomber. His training took him across southern Ontario and to Halifax where he was deployed to England and served with his tight knit crew. He never missed an opportunity to proudly share stories from this important time of his life.
After the war ended, he earned his carpentry apprenticeship where he had a long career in construction. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and dedicated contributions toward helping neighbours, friends, family and his church.
Russ's family will receive relatives and friends from 2 - 4 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A Funeral Service will be held at St. James' Rosemount United Church, 171 Sherwood Avenue, Kitchener, ON, Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. Following the reception, interment to take place at Chesterfield Cemetery, Bright, ON. In memory of Russ, please consider a blood donation to help those in need of a transfusion.
Russ was a long time active member of St. James’ Rosemount United Church. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. James' Rosemount United Church or the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
