Condolence: Dear Marilyn, Rob, Andy and Krissy and family...I want to tell you how sad I was to hear about the passing of Gerry. It was only a few weeks ago that I spoke with him and Rob as they were walking down the boardwalk in Southampton. Gerry had been my professor, PhD supervisor and friend. He always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and tried to support them. He was a kind and gentle soul and he will be missed. I am happy to contribute to his memorial scholarship. I hope all the happy memories will help you through this difficult time. Sincerely, Bruce Arhibald

Condolence: I was in Guelph's Diploma program in Agriculture (OAC'75A) and Gerry was one of my profs. I was a city kid and not a great student at the time. I flunked the weed ID exam. Gerry was teaching the course. I met with him after the exam and after a long chat, he agreed to pass me. I'm sure he didn't expect I would stay in ag but I have thrived in the field ever since. I never forgot his kindness or his teaching - despite my lack of success in his class.

Condolence: Marilyn and family. So very sorry to hear the news. It seems like yesterday that I was baby sitting the kids - it was a lot of fun. Then spending so much time with Gerry at the U of G. He was someone that changed my life....I am so very grateful for his influence. This is a little crazy but I keep only keep a couple books on my desk and one is a book that Gerry and Dr. McEwen wrote. Gerry scribbled a note to me and signed the book many years ago and I will always have it on my desk. I will never forget Gerry and your family.

Condolence: Dear Marilyn and Family,

I was so sorry to learn of Gerry's passing. My deepest condolences. Gerry was a kind soul who sincerely cared about his students and others. He was a tremendous resource for me when I first started working and years later when I decided to do graduate work. I enjoyed our many science discussions, but also our chats about family, traveling and life in general. He became a trusted friend and will be greatly missed. I hope, in time, fond memories will help to ease your grief.

Sincerely,

Donna Houghton

Condolence: Dear Marilyn, so sorry to learn of Gerry's passing. Gerry was my M.Sc supervisor at the University of Guelph in the late 80's. I will always be indebted to Gerry for the support and encouragement that he provided. In addition to being an excellent scientist and teacher, Gerry took a sincere interest in the welfare of all of his students. I learned a lot about science from Gerry, but I also learned much about being a better person.
