1942-2017
With sad hearts we announce Gerry's passing after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 'Hon' and devoted husband to Patricia for 48 yrs and 'My Dad' to Christina Ayre (Chris) Cheryl Paterson (Mark) and son Paul. He was a very proud 'Papa' to Isaac, Hudson, Kyra and Rowan.
Gerry was one of 7 boys and 3 girls born in Onstwedde, Netherlands to Antonius and Gezina. He was predeceased by his parents, baby brother J. Herman and sister Siena. He leaves behind his brothers Jan (Dianne), Bennett (Betty), Tony (Jane), Herman (Pat) and Bill (Lucy) and sisters Agatha and Cornelia Schlachter (John).
Gerry graduated from Ryerson as a Civil Technologist and was well-known in the construction industry as a Site Superintendent for project management firms. He retired in 2007 after completing the U of G Science Centre. He made many contributions in his career such as the Calgary Sun, LRT (Calgary), Sparwood Leisure Centre (BC), Conference Board of Canada Building (Ottawa), Glaxo Pharmaceuticals (Mississauga), the Sleemans Center and Arena, Humber College and additions at U of W and WLU.
Gerry will be remembered as a hard-working man who loved to golf at Conestoga Golf Course and the once a year trips to Michigan with his brothers.
The family would like to thank Dr Donna Ward for her Hospice at Home care, the nurses of group 7006, our wonderful neighbours and friends and Ruth Ann and Tom for all their help.
Gerry's family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. The Liturgy Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. followed by the interment at St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, Conestogo. Reception at Conestoga Golf Course.
Gerry was an active participant in the walk to make Cystic Fibrosis History for his grandson Rowan, therefore donations to Cystic Fibrosis Canada or Sick Kids would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
