Obituary for Irene Margaret Watt (Beedie)

Irene Margaret Watt (Beedie)
Watt, Irene Margaret

Passed away peacefully at Innisfree House on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the age of 85. Beloved wife of the late Ian Watt (predeceased 2015). Loving mother of Susan (Trish), Alan (Wendy) and Ken (predeceased 2013) (Natalie). Very proud grandma of Tamara (Andrew), Andrew (Tara), Matthew (Elise), Dan, Luke, Alana and Clio; step-grandma to Judi and Thomas. Cherished great-grandma to Brianna, Lauryn, Grace and Maverick. Special aunt to Doreen (Bob), Sheila (Terry), Rob (Karen), as well as many adored nieces and nephews abroad.

Irene lived her life fully and with fervor. Irene and Ian emigrated from Scotland in the early 50s, settling first in northern Ontario as new teachers before moving to Kitchener in 1967. They loved when Scottish relatives visited Canada and were proud to show off the sights and wonders of their adopted country. Irene was devoted to her family and embraced every opportunity to create special moments and lasting traditions. Her lifelong passion for music was shared with family and many devoted piano students. Even after "retiring", she led the Happy Harmonicas Band who has been playing at nursing homes in the community for the past 25 years. Irene and Ian were instrumental in advocating for the building of the Heritage Greens Lawn Bowling Club and were avid bowlers for many years. Irene became a certified coach and umpire and inspired many bowlers of all ages to love this sport. Irene had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them playing bridge, going to the symphony or the theatre, and chatting over a cup of tea and cookies.

Irene approached life with strength and dignity and was able to face her cancer diagnosis with the same determination that she showed for all hurdles in life. She inspired many and will be sadly missed.

Irene’s family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A Memorial Gathering to Celebrate Irene's Life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 11-1:30 p.m. Program at 11:30 a.m. followed by a reception. Private cremation taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Innisfree House or Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
