Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Joanne (nee van Wijk) Nederend for 61 years.
Loving father of Angela Timmins (Peter), Mary Martineau (Yvon), Bill Nederend (Marianne), Wilma Nederend (Jeff Verbeem), John Nederend (Cathy), Anne Nederend and Charles Nederend. Dear Opa of Carolyn (Ryan), John, Daniel, Anne, Monica, Rosemarie, Peter, Jacob (Lauren), Elizabeth and Matthew and great-grandfather of Eliot. Predeceased by grandson Ryan Nederend (March 2017). Remembered by special family friends Khamsay and Jung Ratanavanh.
Dear brother of Fie de Graaff (the late Jan) in the Netherlands, and brother-in-law of Diny Nederend (the late John) of Stayner, Ontario. Dear brother-in-law of Andy and Margo van Wijk of Stratford, Ontario. Predeceased by five sisters and four brothers in the Netherlands.
Simon's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Parish prayers 3 p.m. on Monday. Prayers will be offered in the funeral home chapel at 9:10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 followed by procession to St. Boniface R.C. Church, Maryhill, for a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Fr. Ronald Voisin officiating. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery, with reception to follow in the Maryhill Community Centre.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Catholic Missions of Canada or the Region of Waterloo Food Bank would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
