Peacefully at Grand River Hospital on May 9 in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her parents Levi Stanley and Ida (Shiry) Reist, her husband Felix Nickel, her brother Robert Reist, her granddaughter Joanne Rabe Stephenson and son-in-law Roy Rabe. Lovingly remembered by children Jane Rabe, Nancy (Fred) Kinsie, Cathy (Bob) Balog, Herb (Bev) Nickel, Sandy Nickel (partner Adrian Dick). Missed by grandchildren Josh (Krista), Sarah (Jeremy), Jim, John (Becky), Andy (Cheryl), Bobbi (Marc), Jesse (Stephen), Peter (Sarah), Jake and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mildred grew up in the Breslau/Riverbank area where she was a founding member of the local Girl Guide movement. She was a lifetime member of Trillium (Zion) United Church. In her last years, she enjoyed old and new friends in the Fairview Apartments. Her door was always open and the coffee pot was on. An artist at heart, Mildred had a wide range of talents including painting, china painting, knitting, quilting, sewing and of course, baking those chocolate chip cookies. She loved her summers in Honey Harbour with Felix, her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Trillium United Church, 450 King Street East in Cambridge with Pastor Mark Rutledge officiating. A reception and fellowship time will follow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home, Kitchener (519-749-8467). Private cremation. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Trillium United Church and Mennonite Central Committee.
