Obituary for Katharine Regina Atterer (Weiss)

Katharine Regina Atterer (Weiss)
Katharine Regina Atterer (nee Weiss):
Passed away on February 1, 2017 at Sunnyside Home, in her 97th year.
Predeceased by her husband Edward (2013), mother Gertrude, father Nicholas, sister Marie, and brother Nick.
Survived by daughter Lori Cole (Jack) and niece Sharon Bird (Erwin) and cousin Trudy Urso. Kay was born in 1920 in the Banat region of Yugoslavia (now Serbia). Kay with her mother and sister, followed her father to Canada, arriving in Halifax on June 4, 1926, taking the train to Milestone, Saskatchewan, and settling in Regina. There Kay attended schools including the Loretto Convent in Sedley, where she learned the piano, which she enjoyed playing right through until her final days. In 1942 the family moved to Hamilton, and Kay worked in the offices of Stelco. She met Ed in 1954, and they were married July 2, 1955, residing in St. Catharines until retiring to Tillsonburg, and finally Kitchener. Kay loved music and singing, and was a member of several choirs throughout her life. She was an avid New York Yankees fan and her European baking and cooking skills were renown; kipferls were her speciality, and in fact Ed and Kay met while she was learning to make them. The family thanks the caring staff at Sunnyside Home (Three Bridges) for all their help and kindness. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Sunnyside Foundation - Music Therapy Program, or St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, or the charity of your choice are welcome.
Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, February 4 at 10 a.m., with service to follow at 12 noon, at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener (519-749-8467). Private cremation has taken place.
