Passed away peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre at the age of 100.
Beloved husband of the late Clara (nee McElhone) O'Neill (1983). Loving father of George O'Neill S.J. and Jan McInnes (Jim).
Dear grandfather of Scott McInnes (Jennie) and Wendy McInnes. Great-grandfather of Byllee and Jorja McInnes Bauer and a third great-grandchild on the way.
George will be missed and remembered by his sister-in-law Catherine (Kay) O'Neill and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his parents J. Arthur and Wilhelmine (nee Lang), his brother Joseph and sister Elizabeth (Betty) Jessop.
George served on active service with the R.C.A.F 1943-1945. He was employed in the Kitchener button and plastic business as Treasurer. He then became the Controller in the Tack and Nail business in Cambridge from 1954-1984 at which time he retired. He was active in Scouting with the 4th Kitchener Cub and Scout Group and served as a Director and as Camp Chairman on the North Waterloo District Boy Scout Council. George received recognition of his services to scouting, the 50 year service pin and Medal of Merit with bars from Scouts Canada National Office, Ottawa.
The family of George O'Neill will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467. Parish prayers 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Funeral Mass 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at St. Anthony Daniel R.C. Church, 29 Midland Drive, Kitchener followed by a reception in the Parish Life Centre.
Interment Woodland Cemetery after the reception.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the KW Humane Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
