Obituary for Wallace Koegler

Wallace Koegler
Koegler, Wallace (Wally):
Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the age of 92.
Predeceased by his loving wife, Audrey, son Mark, mother and father, Rose and Kurt, and his brother Victor. Lovingly remembered by his niece Lynnette Favrin of Etobicoke, and his cousin Jerlene Favrin of Guelph.
Wally was in the field of Animal Welfare for some 26 years, having joined the local society in 1952 as their inspector/manager and progressed through the ranks as regional inspector, staff superintendent, and chief inspector with the OSPCA in Toronto. His responsibility included the overall supervision of reported cruelty and abuse to animals brought before the judicial system in the Province of Ontario. During his career, Wally was the recipient of many awards, including being named the most outstanding OSPCA inspector in the province. He retired in 1975 when he and Audrey started their own interior decorating business for some 13 years. After retirement from the decorating, he joined the local K-W Humane Society on their board of directors. In 1989, the board honoured Wally for his many accomplishments and commitment to the love and humane treatment of animals. A motion was passed to create a yearly perpetual plaque, given to those who had shown deeds of heroism, courage and humanitarian acts of bravery towards the welfare of animals. Wally finally retired in 1991 as the boards' president.
Cremation has taken place. As per Wally's wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Arrangements entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Lions Foundation of Canada-Guide Dogs or the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
