When I think of Marlene the first word that comes to mind is "welcoming". She and her husband Gordon were one of the first to welcome me into the world with a card for my parents. Marlene attended my baby shower August 22, 1962 at Marie Potz's home and contribute to the group gift. I still have the baby card.
Marlene has welcomed my family into her home for meals and get togethers. Being a friend of her daughter Dawn, Marlene welcomed me to join them for countless meals and sleepovers from childhood to my young adault years. The best times were when she would ask me to join them at their trailer at Muskoka Bible Camp and going to see the Christmas lights in Simcoe.
Before leaving for the mission field with Trans World Radio in 1988 Marlene and Gordon welcomed me to stay in their home for a month. During that time she welcomed me to cook and bake with her in her kitchen sharing family recipes. Marlene made everything taste wonderful! She also helped with my send off shower and in 1989 my wedding shower.
Later when I came home from furlough Marlene welcomed my husband Chris and myself over for her famous Pot Roast and a time of fellowship. As time went on she hosted our first born, Christopher baby shower in her home and helped us welcome him into the family of Benton. She was also in attendance at our daughter's, Melissah and other son Caleb's baby shower.
The most important place Marlene welcomed me was to God's Throne Room. I know at least weekly and most likely more, Marlene welcomed my name there along with my husband and children. I shall miss her prayers but am thankful for all the years she has prayed for me.
Marlene has been welcomed now into heaven and I know one day I will join her there and I look forward to that day when Jesus and her welcome me home also.
