passed away at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family at University Hospital in London on Wednesday August 13, 2014. Beloved husband and best friend of Colette (nee Reinhardt) for 68 years. Loving father of Martin (Aggie) and Jane. Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Laura (Mike Milner), Christopher Udvari and Frances Brooks (Marc Beaulieu). Survived by his sister Helen Carniglia (Victor). Predeceased by his parents Martin and Eva and by his sister Mary (Art Harris). Frank was born in Militic, Yugoslavia and immigrated to Canada at the age of 8. He lived in Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo. Frank's refereeing career began in the OHA, before joining the NHL in 1951. In his 15 year career he worked 718 regular season games and 70 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He also worked in the AHL and various other leagues. In 1966 Frank was appointed the first supervisor of officials for the NHL. He conducted Referee Schools in Germany, the US and Finland. Frank was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1973 and served on the Selection Committee for 12 years. Frank formed Udvari Investments and Construction in 1975 and served as President. He was joined by his son Marty in 1984. He was also President of LCF Investments and Vice-President of Donsig Cones of Waterloo with his daughter Jane. Frank was a member of the Westmount Golf and Country Club, Atlantis Golf Club in Florida and a life-member of the KW Racquet Club. Frank's family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 pm on Saturday August 16 and from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Sunday August 17 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener 519-749-8467. Prayers will be offered at the Funeral Home on Monday August 18, 2014 at 10:20 am followed by a procession to St. Louis Catholic Church, 53 Allen St. in Waterloo for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Reception to follow. Private interment Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Mary's Hospital - Cardiac Care or University Hospital in London would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
