Obituary for Hazel Louise Hollinger (Becker)

Hollinger, Hazel Louise (nee Becker)
Hazel passed away peacefully with her family at her side on May 9, 2013 at Grand River Hospital following a stroke. Beloved wife of the late Floyd W. Hollinger (1987). Devoted mother of Susan and Michael Fitzgerald and Tim and Debbie Hollinger. Loving grandmother to Melissa Fitzgerald and Dave Edgar, Emily and James Gaede, Michael Fitzgerald, Vicki and James Zettler and Jeffery Hollinger. Special great grandmother (GG) to Henry Gaede.
Predeceased by infant son Richard Floyd, her parents Lawrence Albert and Mary Louise Becker, brother Harold Becker and lifelong best friend and sister-in-law Olga Becker.
Hazel lived her entire life in Kitchener and Waterloo. She worked as an administrative assistant at Equitable Life and Olivetti Canada, but her true devotion was her family. She and Floyd were avid golfers and charter members of Conestoga Country Club. A gifted artist, Hazel was a founding member of the Trillium China Painters Guild. She was also a member of the International Porcelain Art Teachers, Inc., sharing her special gift with many students.
Hazel recently moved to Waterloo Heights Retirement Apartments. Though her time there was a mere 10 months she made deep and meaningful friendships. She shared her infectious sense of humour with all she met, and enjoyed teasing and being teased. Hazel had a true appreciation for the nonsensical side of life; chasing fairies and threatening to hop on her witch's broom. Hazel was as content and happy at Waterloo Heights as she has ever been and we thank the staff, personal care workers and residents for their love and support.
Thanks also to the dedicated nursing staff of 5A, Dr. Wang and Maureen Evans for their kind and compassionate care during this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place.
Hazel's family will receive relatives and friends from 11:30 am - 1:15 pm on May 13th, 2013 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467, followed by a Celebration of Hazel's Life in the funeral home chapel at 1:30pm. Hazel always had an eye for colour and since this is a celebration of her life please don your most cheerful spring colours in lieu of the drab shades of mourning. It's what Mom would have wanted!
Private family burial will take place at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Arthritis Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a Charity of your Choice would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
